Quality Parrot Toys

Parrot toys! Finding the best ones for Your Pet Birds...

Toys are a key to the happiness of your bird. Finding the best ones are not always easy, and they do get expensive. If you have any tips for our visitors, send along an email, and we'll pass them on.

Sizes of Bird Toys - Parrot Toys - should vary according to the size of your Pet Bird. There are several toys that are made for smaller birds (like our Sun Conures) that we have found quite suitable for our Amazon Parrot as well. Bubba (the Amazon) tends to destroy these smaller bird toys, but (as long as they are safe and non-toxic) they do keep him busy!

If fact, like food, Bird Toys need to be replenished. Most of Bubba's favorite toys are ones that he can tear apart and destroy. And, that of course, gets expensive.

So, Some Money Saving Ideas...

Here are just a few ideas to supplement those (Great Quality) but more expensive - and often, longer-lasting - Bird Toys that are commercially produced. Your Pet Bird needs variety, just as we do.

We have found a few "cheap" alternatives for "destroy-able" Parrot Toys. The wooden "ice cream spoons" that come with those cups of ice cream are a great (although short-lived) toy. We even have one commercial establishment saving their spoons for our birds. (They were just throwing them away.) And, they come wrapped, so they are sanitary.

You can find a similar, inexpensive way of getting similar wooden toys - by going to your local Hobby or Craft store. Many have popsicle sticks in bulk, as well as other small wooden pieces that are safe for birds. And, they are relatively inexpensive.

Don't forget to rotate your bird toys on occasion too. Something new brings excitement and prevents boredom - Very important for a healthy bird!

One more idea to help your budget. Next time you're at the local Department store, visit the "Baby Toys" section. These are non-toxic and safe for infants - as they are for your birds. Baby toys make great bird toys for a couple more reasons too. They are (relative to bird toys) inexpensive. And they generally are long-lasting (for those birds, like Bubba, who enjoy destroying their bird toys.)

You may even find baby toys at the Salvation Army or similar outlet, or at a garage sale. At even better prices!! (One nice find was a bag of outgrown baby toys for $1. What a great deal!)

Just be sure to santitize/wash them well before passing them on to your Pets. Easy to do by running them through the dishwasher (unless you ARE the dishwasher of course.)
