Lost Meyers Parrot - North Caroline - August 2005 Penelope sent this in... "Hemmingway, our banded Meyers Parrot "escaped" from our car on 8/13 at a North Carolina Rest Stop, milepost #49. We called the police and they referred us to the animal rescue, who said they only rescued lost dogs and cats, as he watched us from a high tree, saying "birdie, birdie" to a curious nearby robin. He was only 6 mo in March '05, and ony 1/3 of the front of his head is yellow. He's typical of a Myers - shy, gentle, but is more social than usual I'm told. He loves people, and will walk up to strangers, say "step up", "hi", "hello", and when he knows you a little bit say, "want drink" or "drink" so you'll take him to a faucet and let him sip out of it. He also says, "want that" if you're eating something he wants, and "good drink?" if you're drinking something. He calls, "mommy, mommy" when he's lonely, and makes various other noises to play: microwave, car door open, chewing gum, swallowing, etc. He plays the "cell phone game", where he mimics the ringing noise, says "hello", then "hi" if you don't do it first. As you talk to him, he says uh huh, and ahhhh, and other words. He asks, "cookie?" just before he's ready to bed down for the night, and when he's finished eating says, "nite nite" when he's ready for you to carry him to his "house", where he climbs in and onto his special "nite nite perch". I'm a writer, and he was my constant office companion. He may have been tired of riding in the car, or having recently reached puberty, heard the call of the wild. He was pretty spoiled however, and I'm afraid he won't be able to survive on his own. He's always been a late sleeper, and every morning I told him "if the early bird gets the worm, you would starve outside." He's on a diet of fresh fruits and veggies, Harrison pellets, and a little seed mixture occasionally. Favorites are: grapes, carrots, green beans, apples, pears, corn, beans, parsley. Every morning, I cut off 2" of the stem end of a banana, and he held it like an ice cream cone to eat it on his window perch. If you find him, please let me know? If you decide to keep him, you know his habits and food preferences now. He was born in Charlottesville, VA." Note from ParrotsNow.... that
is kind to let people know what Hemmingway likes, but please let us
know if you find him, to get him back to Penelope! Lost African Grey - Accokeek, Maryland - July 23 2005 Jessica sent this... "My TAG ( African Grey) flew out of our home on 7/23 in Accokeek, MD. She is friendly and talkitive

Lost African Grey - Branchburg, New Jersey - July 31 2005 Fred sent this.... "Our 4yr old African Grey, "Simon" got lost this past Sunday, 7/31/2005. We live in Branchburg, NJ off of Rte. 22. We are by Solberg Airport and Fox Hollow Golf Club. He's a standard African Grey -- white face, grey body and bright red tail. He has no real distinctive features. When he talks, he may be reciting family member's names: Andrea, Paola, Natalia, Freddy, Marcela. He also howls like our dogs. He sometimes responds to a "hoo" - like an owl sound. He's very friendly although I don't know how he might react to being lost in the 'wild' considering he's only flown in doors." Great News! Fred sent this update... "Simon was found this

"Our Senegel Parrot flew out our sliding glass doors and into our back yard. His name is "Curtis"...his mate.."Mama"...doen't seem to miss him as much as we do. We adopted them a few months ago and recently moved into our new home a couple weeks ago. He always comes out to play but last night he took off. His wings were supposed to be clipped, so I thought. Do they grow back? Four people went searching for him, I wish I was home too, I wouldn't of given up looking..as soon as I got home and found out my search began until 1am and then again at 7am. I'm exhausted. How far can they go? Can animals eat them? I'm worried sick. He was my bestest bud! I adopted them for my therapy. I was in a car accident a year ago and they can talk. I have neurological and orthopedic injuries. I thought what great rehab I would get from this. and they would get the love and attention they deserved too. Now I am sick to my stomach and I am not sure what to do next. I have walked all over the fields. My son said he swears he seen Curtis chasing a sparrow lastnight and that he wa 15-20 feet in the air and they lost sight of him. Please anyone with advice let ParrotsNow know. we would also be willing to give a reward if our Curtis is found alive and well and returned unharmed. He has a band on his leg. And he does something very unique when you pet his head. I will leave this a secret so that if he is found I can tell you what it is that he does so special. We live in the town of Enfield, New York in the fingerlakes region...just west of Ithaca New York. Also, might I ask what are the chances that he will be found?" Mike and Kelly added this... "Thank You very much for
posting our information about our missing Senegal "Curtis"...He
is still missing and it has been a long 4 1/2 days....every time we go
outside we whistle the sexy whistle like he did and call out his name
in hope's that he will call back at us... when we drive around I am always
looking at the tree's and telephone and electric lines and poles....we
miss him dearly...and his mate and our cat does too...including our son...who

"Very recently (late june) the cable repairman scared our Senegal Parrot, Baybee, out the door (which he left open). We are simply devastated with his loss, and it feels like our child has gone missing. We have taken out ads in all the local papers, put up flyers, informed people, and even are paying a service hundreds of dollars to call all of the homes within a 40 block radius. He is about 6-8" tall, green with grey hood and orange/yellow "Vest". He loves to say "Baybee" and "What's the matter with you!?" as well as imitate the phone ringing. He is extremely playful, but, like the typical Senegal can be mischevious and "naughty" if he doesn't get his way. He was hand fed (by us) and brought up from infancy in our family. We miss him terribly. Any assistance, of any type, would be appreciated. Even if you do not have him, but think you may have seen him or heard someone talking about a bird sighting, or possibly know someone that has acquired a new pet parrot mysteriously, please let us know. THERE IS A REWARD FOR HIS SAFE RETURN. Please, please help us find our Baybee! Matt or Kyle" Any Info, contact ParrotsNow , and we'll let Matt and Kyle know immediately.

Howard sent this notice, from West Sussex, United Kingdom.... The family African Grey Parrot flew away on the evening of Tuesday the 21 of June 05. It is a beloved family pet raised from an exceedingly young age. Louie is extremely sociable yet, somewhat expectedely, naughty. It is this childish attention-seeking behaviour of his that may be the key in having him sighted and found quite soon. I am searching for him before college every morning and again in the evening. It is most likely he is within one mile of where we live. I have told as many strangers
as possible and contacted groups. I just wanted to plea that I could perhaps
make the viewers of your (pretty darn cool) site aware that the African
grey Parrot called Louie is missing from, and most likely to be
found in; Some Great News! Howard sent this update, June 25... "GREAT NEWS!! Thanks to excessive advertising and practically telling everyone I saw about our missing Louie, he was discovered in someone's back garden not too far from my home. Within minutes I rushed to the address, broke down the door, found him nestled atop some garden furniture and shoved him into a spare hamster cage during a stylish forward flipping movment! Now he's back safe in his generously massive cage which cost a fortune ;) I'm so grateful he isn't harmed and want to thank everyone at your site for helping to publicise the search even more! I hope everyone else is as lucky as me in their search - if this parrot was found, then yours could soon be too!! Persistance is the key my friends! thanks again."

Second, from the United Kingdom - Kingston, London, Angelica writes... A few weeks ago Iost my beloved African grey, Gemmain. I am heartbroken and I want anyone who knows where or has seen him to contact ParrotsNow. I was so lucky to have adopted him. He was abused from his last owner, I loved him so much because we bonded straight away and Ialways checked if Ihad left the door open but he was so tame. Once in a while left him in my living room flying around but never had the window or anything open. But my boyfriend left the window open and I didn't know. I should of checked but my boyfriend said it was alright, he will check. The next thing I knew, Gemmain flew out of the window. Gemmain and my boyfriend never got on. Gemmain does bite but she never bites me. I guess he only liked one person. I put up posters and and fliers but no one got back to me. i miss him so much and everyday if he is near Ialways shout out his name but no luck at all. He is grey with a red tail and he has a bunch of black feathers on his back. He has a black beak but you would know he stands out from all the other birds. Whenever he sees anyone he always shouts out "hello" and if I passed he would shout out "pretty lady." If you saw him you would know straight away, he is unique. He can't see very well with one eye because his last owner used to hit him hard. If you have any info, contact ParrotsNow right away, and we will get in touch with Angelica. UPDATE... Heather sent this about Gemmain... I have seen Gemmain, the
bird Angelica lost, in a tree. I called out "Gemmain" and it
said "hello" to me. Please contact her and say Gemmain is alright
and is near Kent. We let Angelica know, but no futher updates... Further update from Angelica... I Have very good news! Heather
and I went out searching for him and we found And finally, from the delta area of Mississippi, two hours south of Memphis, TN, Katherine writes... On November 26, 2004, my timneh african gray flew away. His name is Ribbit and he is everything to me. I have never known this kind of grief; it is terrible. He is six years old, talks a lot, says his name, (also sings out "ribby dibby dibby dooo" and sings "good night, good night" at bedtime, also will say "take a shower?" in the morning.) It's been almost six months now, but I came across this site and part of me hopes that someone was driving through the area and found him and is reading this now. I live in the delta area of Mississippi, two hours south of Memphis, TN and an hour away from the MS river and Arkansas. The gulf coast is south and Alabama is to the east. I have offered a large reward; at the time it was a great incentive for the children from the many church groups. They organized searches and literally combed the shrubs and bushes (his wings were clipped) but not even a feather was found. I cannot give up hope and I
do believe in miracles. Thank you for the good work you are doing. If you can help, contact ParrotsNow right away, and we will get in touch with Katherine.
