Lost Hahn's Macaw - Napa, California - Aug 25, 2007

On Saturday, August 25, 2007, our baby Hahn’s Macaw got spooked and flew away from our home on Pear Tree Lane in north Napa, CA. His name is Raku (pronounced Rockoo), and we miss our sweet baby (13 months old) Miniature Hahn’s Macaw (also called a Red-Shouldered Macaw).

He’s just beginning to get his adult feathers, and just has learned to fly – we were just about to clip his flight feathers. He’s about 10 inches long from his head to the end of his tail. The undersides of his wings are red, and he’s has a few red feathers on the tops of his shoulders too. The top of his head is teal blue and the middle feathers of his wings have been clipped. And he has a silver ID band on his left leg. He’s people friendly, but has never spent much time outside, except in our yard.

If you find him please call 707-265-0353. You may also bring him to Silverado Veterinary Hospital at 2035 Silverado Trail,
707-224-7953.

Also, please let us know if and where you see him – there aren’t that many bright green parrots flying around here! It’d be great to know he’s okay – and perhaps we can coax him home!

Sad news
by: Jim from ParrotsNow

DJ let us know at ParrotsNow that her parrot was found dead unfortunately. Quoting DJ...

"It's so sad, but a neighbor found our baby bird in her backyard, and called us to let us know that he wasn't living. It was way too risky for us to have let his wings grow, and we are very sad to have lost him so early (13 months) in his life. We hope all of you who have captive birds will heed the warnings we ignored! It looked like he'd been attacked as one of his wings was broken. He was loved while he was here, but we could have protected him from harm if we had clipped those new flight feathers that just came in. Please protect your birds!

Blessings to all, and I hope all the lost birds are found and safe!

Good Luck
by: Jan From Berwyn, Pennsylvania

He is a pretty bird. I am sure you will get him back because Napa Valley doesn't have a lot of green birds.

Good luck.
